ICE CUBE REJECTS ‘G.O.A.T.’ TITLE: ‘DON’T CALL ME THAT’

IceCube has worn a lot of titles throughout his career, from AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted to the one you “love to hateto the guy who “started this gangsta shit.” But don’t you dare call him the G.O.A.T.

The West Coast rap pioneer and BIG3 co-founder took to X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter, on Saturday (September 30) to share his feelings on being called the Greatest Of All Time.

“For those who thinks it flatters me, please don’t call me a fucking goat. Carry-on,” he said. He followed up several hours later, writing: “Don’t get me wrong. I appreciate the respect but don’t call me that.”

As of press time, there was no further elaboration from the former N.W.A lyricist about why he disowned the title, but Ice Cube’s reticence hasn’t stopped him from bestowing G.O.A.T. status on other rappers.

Just last year, Cube anointed Lil Wayne as the G.O.A.T. during an appearance on the On the Guest List podcast.

“His metaphors are otherworldly,” Cube said of Weezy, “As far as lyrics and can make hits, you know. [He’s] been copied all these years and nothing but clones of Lil Wayne at the end of the day. So I just think, besides myself. I’ve done so much for the culture, but uh, yeah, yeah he’s dope.”

Despite his statement, Ice Cube has been called the greatest of all time by at least one notable Hip Hop personality. Kanye West referred to Cube and fellow West Coast legend Too $hort as G.O.A.T.s back in 2018 by placing goat emojis next to their names in social media posts.
