JaRule has shared that he chose not to retaliate publicly after 50 Cent mocked the passing of Murder Inc. co-founder Irv Gotti, despite feeling deeply angered by the remarks.

Gotti died in February at just 54 years old. While much of the hip hop community mourned his loss, 50 Cent took a different route, continuing his long-standing feud with the label by appearing celebratory in a post-death social media update.

In an interview on The Breakfast Club, Ja Rule spoke about the situation, explaining that he generally avoids mentioning 50. “I don’t bring him up per se at all. I think that’s because he’s a troll and he keeps it going. I’ll go to the circus once in a while, you know, but I really like to stay clear of that shit.” Still, he acknowledged that 50’s actions struck a nerve. “I was hot, I was ready to go nuclear and shit.”

Ja credited DJ Premier with helping him handle the situation in a more composed manner. “Prem said it best. He said, ‘Rule, you got to understand who we are and what we are. We are masters of self-defense.’ I don’t want to start trouble, make trouble with people. But if we gotta get into it, make it, I’ll fucking end it.”

He wrapped up the thought by reinforcing his values: “You protect your family, your home, your honor, your name, your reputation. That’s who we are as men.”

Back in February, shortly after the news of Gotti’s death, 50 Cent posted a photo of himself smoking hookah beside a fake gravestone, writing: “I’m smoking on dat Gotti pack, nah God bless him LOL.”

The day before, after it was reported that Gotti had suffered a second stroke, 50 also joked on Instagram: “Damn I wanted him to see my new shows yo!”

One of the harshest responses came from Supreme McGriff Jr., the son of a notorious drug figure connected to Murder Inc. and allegedly linked to the 2000 shooting of 50 Cent. In a video, McGriff Jr. addressed 50’s behavior by flipping the scenario: “If I said I was smoking on your mother and your grandfather pack, n-ggas would be telling me I’m wrong, right? If I said I was smoking on your mother, I’d be wrong, right?”
