Young Thug and Lil Wayne’s relationship has been unique since the Atlanta rapper exploded onto the rap scene in 2014 with “Stoner” and “Danny Glover.” After Thugger became part of Rich Homie Quan’s Rich Gang and got close to Wayne, their initial relationship didn’t get off to the best start.

In a clip of the Million Dollars Worth of Game podcast shared Sunday (December 27), Thugger opened up about his first time meeting Weezy to someone else who once had a longstanding conflict with Wayne, Gillie Da Kid.

“Man that n-gga gotdamn … the first day he didn’t dap me up,” Thug says of the encounter. “Tried me. Now my feet hurt and I’ma real stepper. Left the pimpin’ hanging. He prolly had them chrome hearts on.”

Thug continued, “One time I dapped him up (and gave me weak dap). I’m like, ‘Hey listen bruh, I’m never touching your hand again. Just off of that. I’m a player, I’m a real player and I don’t give no fuck. Nothing about me is a groupie, no nothing! You inspired me.”

Gillie’s history with Wayne dates back to 2004 when the Philly-bred rapper was part of Cash Money Records. After leaving the label due to an alleged monetary dispute with Birdman, there were rumors Gillie was ghostwriting for Wayne, most notably on Wayne’s 2004 album Tha Carter. During a September episode of Drink Champs, Gillie put the issue to rest.

“Let me just say this, right,” he said at the time. “I done spoke on that shit so many times that — if you Google it, Stunna say it,” he said at the time. “Out his mouth. ‘He wrote some things for the company but he didn’t get paid what he got paid.’ So that was gratifying enough. At the end of the day, salute to Lil Wayne. Salute to Baby. ‘Cause I seen Baby in Miami at King Of Diamonds and, you know, I approached him.”

Despite their beef, Thugger and Wayne found a way to reconcile and even recorded “Out West” for Wayne’s No Ceilings 3 mixtape, which was released in November. Stream the collab between the two below.
