Young Thug showed off his skills in an all-new, botanical-style NPR Tiny Desk performance that premiered on Tuesday (July 27).

Recorded at the Houdini Estate in Los Angeles, the rapper performed four new songs — “Die Slow,” “Droppin Jewels,” “Hate the Game” and “Tick Tock” — each with a punk-rock-infused twist, thanks to the band Damnage Gooods and drummer Tosh Peterson. Thug was then backed by Travis Barker on the drums when he delivered yet another rock-star live rendition of his final track of the set, “Ski.” Barker closed out the song and the show with an impressive drum solo. “Ski,” which debuted in April, peaked at No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Throughout his punk-rock Tiny Desk appearance, Young Thug teased his upcoming second studio album, PUNK, and revealed the Oct. 15 release date on the back of his T-shirt.

Via Instagram on Monday, Young Thug previewed a clip from his “Tick Tock” performance. Tosh, the drummer who rocked out for the first four tunes of Thug’s performance, commented on the video, saying, “Such an honor to rock out with you brother!!! thanks for having me.”

PUNK comes a little more than two years after Young Thug’s debut studio album, So Much Fun, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart in August 2019. The album, released via YSL Records, 300 Entertainment and Atlantic Records, charted for 93 weeks.
