Young Thug has voiced his disappointment with Billboard’s recently published ranking of the best female rappers of all time, taking particular issue with one noticeable absence.
Although the list — which placed Nicki Minaj in the top spot — has stirred plenty of discussion online, Thug added his own perspective after it was shared on social media this past Wednesday (April 9). The Atlanta artist took to Akademiks’ Instagram comments to express his confusion over why his girlfriend, Mariah The Scientist, wasn’t included, writing: “Where Mariah at tho [thinking face emoji]”.

In addition to Minaj, the list highlights icons like Lauryn Hill, Missy Elliott, Lil Kim, Queen Latifah, and Foxy Brown. It also features names like Eve, Remy Ma, and Rapsody, as well as newer talents including Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, GloRilla, Doechii, and Latto.
Thug’s defense of Mariah may also reflect underlying tensions in their relationship, particularly due to previous controversy over his phone conversations with other women while incarcerated.
In a recorded jail call that surfaced in December, the YSL rapper admitted to chatting with “at least 10 other girls” just to pass the time. During the same conversation, he also confessed that Mariah’s deep love for him scares him, as he fears doing anything that might “devastate” her.
Following the leak, Thug issued a public apology to his “Walked In” collaborator via social media, posting: “Sorry to my baby for all this bullshit on the internet. I love u baby and fuck em all we know what’s up with us!” on X.
The pair have reportedly been together since 2021, and Mariah has remained supportive of Young Thug throughout his ongoing legal challenges, which began after he was indicted on RICO charges in 2022.
