YNW Melly is facing first-degree murder charges, yet fans continue to stream his music in large numbers. The incarcerated rapper’s single “Murder On My Mind” has received platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America.
“Murder On My Mind” previously went gold on January 10, a month before Melly was arrested for the murder of his friends Christopher Thomas Jr. (a.k.a. YNW Juvy) and Anthony Williams (a.k.a. YNW Sakchaser). The song was certified platinum by the RIAA on March 6.
Police say Melly shot and killed Thomas and Williams inside a Jeep Compass on October 26, 2018. Melly and Cortlen Henry, who is also known as YNW Bortlen, are accused of staging a drive-by shooting in an attempt to cover up the double homicide.
Henry allegedly drove the dead bodies around for a period of time before bringing them to a hospital in Miramar, Florida. He told police the victims were shot in a drive-by.
Melly has pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder. Henry also pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and accessory charges on Monday (March 11).
No bail has been set for Melly and Henry. The two will remain behind bars until trial.
