Tyler, The Creator, a longtime admirer of Clipse and a devoted fan of Pharrell Williams, was determined to perfect his verse on Let God Sort Em Out, driven by his respect for the artists involved.

During an interview on Hot 97 on Tuesday (July 29), Tyler disclosed that he had to re-record his verse on “P.O.V.” between 79 and 100 times and almost decided to back out of the collaboration entirely.

“It took me about 79 to 100 times to do it, and I almost texted Pusha T, ‘I don’t think this is gonna work,’” he said. “It’s been a few times I’ve gotten nervous and trying to nail that verse with two of my Mount Rushmores, produced by Mount Rushmore, was like I can’t f—k this up for me.”

“It took me so long to write that and just trying to perfect it … Was really in that b—h sweating. That n—a Pusha sent me that before I went on tour, probably in April and I ain’t get him that s—t until end of May, early June.”

After he finally completed the verse, Tyler felt an enormous sense of relief. “I was trying to record that verse for so long. Then it came out and people liked it,” he said. “When I did not f—k up the song, n—a, ooh.”

In another part of the conversation, Tyler explained that Don’t Tap the Glass was originally conceived as a name for a collaborative project between him and A$AP Rocky.

“Don’t Tap the Glass was actually a name I had for the duo for me and Flacko, but it never got used, so I thought it would be sick,” he said. “I just always had that title in the tuck and always just loved it. When I started working on it, I was like, ‘Oh my God, this feels like that s—t.’”

The album Don’t Tap the Glass debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, achieving 197,000 album-equivalent units in the U.S. during the week ending July 24, according to Luminate.
