Ty Dolla $ign taps some famous, not-so-single ladies for the music video for his single ladies anthem “By Yourself” on Wednesday (April 28).
The song, featuring Jhené Aiko and Mustard, was originally featured on his 2020 album Featuring Ty Dolla $ign, but Bryson Tiller came on for the official remix in March. He joins the troupe in the visual Ty Dolla $ign co-directed with Alex Bittan, which also stars actress and comedian Tiffany Haddish. She links arms with a mystery man (that’s not her A-list boyfriend, Common) while her fed-up voicemail message plays in the background: “Every day, you. Weekdays, you. Weekends, you. Even on my birthday, it’s all about you. Feels like I’m in a relationship with myself. You’re never around! You know what? F—! Maybe that’s what I should do. At least I won’t have to put up with the —-.”
She dances to her newfound freedom with Ty in front of a vintage convertible with its hood popped up in an empty car lot, then Haddish dunks on Tiller in a game of hoops while he delivers his verse about wanting to spend money and time with his girl, knowing she spends money and time on herself.
Aiko, who starred in the “Body Language” video with Ty and her boyfriend Big Sean in December, posts up with her collaborator and bodies her verse about not needing a man, but hitting him up only when she wants to. The lit-up vehicle behind her sports a blurry gold-plated “Chilombo” decal, referring to her own 2020 Grammy-nominated album Chilombo.
