Canadian rapper Tory Lanez was recently attacked in prison by Santino Casio, a fellow inmate serving a life sentence for murder. The incident took place early on Monday, May 12, in a prison housing unit, as reported by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Despite quick intervention from prison staff, Lanez was stabbed 14 times. He was immediately treated and transported to the hospital. The motive for the attack remains unclear, but Casio has since been moved to a more secure part of the facility while authorities investigate the incident.
Casio is known for prior violent offenses behind bars, including receiving six additional years for assault with a deadly weapon and two more years for possessing one.
Lanez sustained serious injuries—both lungs collapsed, and doctors had to place him on a ventilator. Thankfully, he is now breathing independently and has regained the ability to speak. Doctors are hopeful that he will fully recover.
Lanez is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. His time in prison has not been quiet. He has continued to record music and was involved in a feud with PartyNextDoor. Additionally, he remains entangled in legal disputes with Megan Thee Stallion.
Recently, he was accused of interfering with a legal deposition. During a jail visit from Megan’s legal team, Lanez allegedly behaved in a “disruptive, inflammatory and inconsistent” manner, leading even his own legal counsel to distance themselves from his actions. Court documents claim he feigned ignorance of basic terms like “discuss,” “approve,” and “meet,” and directed “petty, misogynistic jabs” at one of Megan’s attorneys about her hair color and appearance.
Lanez has yet to respond publicly to these allegations.
