Tory Lanez has been charged with assault, three months after an argument between the rapper and Megan Thee Stallion resulted in the latter in hospital after reports said Lanez allegedly shot her.
According to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office, Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, was charged on Thursday (Oct. 8) with one felony count each of assault with a semiautomatic firearm – personal use of a firearm – and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle. He also faces a gun allegation and that he personally inflicted great bodily injury.
On July 12, the two rappers got into an argument while riding in an SUV in the Hollywood Hills. When Meg exited the vehicle, Lanez allegedly shot her several times in the foot.
“I was shot in both of my feet, and I had to get surgery to get the sh– taken out, get the bullets taken out, and it was super scary,” Megan told her followers on Instagram Live more than a week later, while wiping away tears. Fortunately, she reported the bullets in both feet didn’t hit her bones nor break any tendons.
In August, the “Hot Girl” rapper, for the first time, named Lanez as the individual who shot her. “Yes … Tory shot me. You shot me and you got your publicist and your people going to these blogs lying,” she said in an Instagram Live video. “Stop lying. Why lie? I don’t understand.”
Lanez’s arraignment is scheduled for October 13 in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center. If convicted, he faces a maximum state prison sentence of 22 years and eight months.
