With his upcoming album It Is What It Is bubbling, Thundercat is back with a touching new single “Fair Chance” featuring Ty Dolla Sign and Lil B.
The heartfelt track is an ode to Thundercat’s late friend Mac Miller, who passed in Sept. 2018.
“This song is about Mac… when he passed it shook the ground for the artist community,” he says in a press release. “Ty’s a strong dude and when he heard the song he knew exactly what it should be. I was there when he recorded it. We talked about what it was, and he did what he felt was right to it, and I love what he did.”
Anchored by steady and somber soundscapes, Thundercat and Ty glide over the guitar-laden track, which serves as a contrast to Cat’s previously released singles “Black Qualls” and Dragonball Durag.”
It Is What It Is is slated to feature production by Flying Lotus and Thundercat along with features from Childish Gambino, Kamasi Washington, BadBadNotGood, Louis Cole, and Zack Fox.
