At the same time The Game was shaming Rolling Stone for not including his 2005 debut The Documentary on its list of the “200 Greatest Hip Hop Albums Of All Time,” he slid in some bad news for his fans.

On Friday (June 10), the proud Los Angeles native tweeted his forthcoming album, Drillmatic, had been pushed back to July 1. The project was originally scheduled to arrive on June 17 with a whopping 30 new tracks.

As he wrote in the tweet, “@RollingStone how is ‘The Documentary’ not on the list for 200 Greatest Rap Albums Of All Time? I carried an entire coast for 20 years on the back of my 1st album. Cause I don’t walk red carpets, play dress up, smile or fake laugh at brunches I don’t count ? #Drillmatic July 1st.”

Drillmatic is executive produced by Hit-Boy but not much else is known about the project other than the cover art. Game announced he was coming out of rap retirement in a rare interview with HipHopDX in March 2021. During the conversation, he lamented the lack of substance in the majority of commercialized rap but was optimistic things were going to change, especially with his return.

“It fucking sucks there’s no real substance in music anymore, but we have to go through it until it’s fruitful again,” he said at the time. “Logic is working with Madlib. And of course, Kendrick and Cole, and then I’m coming back again. Shit’s coming.

“Kendrick and J. Cole can only sit quiet for so long, so you’ll get some good shit. And again, I like the fucking Polo Gs, the Pooh Shiestys, and of course Lil Baby, I love it. I’m in my car, I throw on Lil Baby, but everybody’s not Lil Baby. So again, we got to pick and choose what has substance.”
