NEW YORK, NY – Fresh off the success of Tekashi 6ix9ine’s Hot 100 hit “FEFE” featuring Nicki Minaj, the controversial rapper is feeling the heat from the New York District Attorney.
The D.A. is recommending he serve a stint of one to three years in state prison and register as a sex offender for violating his plea agreement, The Blast reports. A letter from Manhattan’s D.A. Office outlines the reasoning behind their decision.
“Defendant has had over two years to demonstrate to this Court that the role he played in the sexual exploitation of a thirteen-year-old child was an aberration in his otherwise law-abiding life,” the letter reads. “He has failed to do so.”
The rainbow color-haired artist previously pled guilty to the use of a child in a sexual performance in 2015. In exchange for his guilty plea, sentencing was to be deferred for two years. This made him eligible for Youthful Offender adjudication, which would seal his criminal record. All he needed to do was stay out of trouble.
6ix9ine, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, has struggled to satisfy the court’s demands though. He’s facing assault charges in Houston for allegedly choking 16-year-old fan in January. In May, he was arrested for driving on a suspended license and accused of assaulting a police officer, which he denies. Charges in the latter case have since reduced to a misdemeanor.
Sentencing for 6ix9ine is scheduled to take place on October 2.
