TDE rapper Ray Vaughn recently gained attention for his diss track “Crashout Heritage” aimed at Joey Bada$$, but some of the lyrics concerning Tory Lanez have sparked criticism from Maiya The Don.
Maiya, named one of HipHopDX’s Rising Stars of 2024, took issue with Vaughn’s lyrics about Lanez. On one hand, Vaughn criticizes Lanez for featuring on a recent DDG track (“Tory, you should be ashamed of yourself / ‘Cause DDG needed to sell, you did a verse from a cell”); on the other hand, Vaughn also reflects on his own collaboration with the imprisoned rapper (“‘Fore you went to jail, in the booth, me and you was Kenan and Kel”) and questions Lanez’s conviction in the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion (“Don’t think you shot her, I was prayin’ for your freedom as well”).
Maiya raised a point on X (formerly Twitter) on January 9, questioning the intent behind Vaughn’s comments: “What’s the point of dissing Tory Lanez if it’s NOT for shooting a woman?” she wrote. “Talking ab[out] ‘I was praying for your freedom’ OHHH BROTHERRRR.”
She added, “You mad him for doing a song with DDG ??????????????????????????????????????????????”

In response, Vaughn defended his stance, saying, “Say your opinion on the net they try to whoop you for it. I ain’t goin tho.”

Lanez was found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in December 2022 and was given a 10-year prison sentence the following year.
However, the majority of Ray Vaughn’s track “Crashout Heritage” is aimed at Joey Bada$$, not Lanez.
Released on January 8, the song is a rebuttal to Joey Bada$$’s recent song “The Ruler’s Back,” which included some harsh criticism of West Coast Hip Hop.
In “Crashout Heritage,” Vaughn raps: “What’s with the sneak dissing? Taking shots at us then hide the Uzi / ‘Cause the only badass the world was recognizing is Boosie / Please don’t get confused with shooting them movies with really shooting / Was on Soul album so if you ask me, you look like a goofy / I hope this message reaches you well.”
