Two days after TMZ released a video of Saweetie and Quavo‘s physical altercation in an elevator, Saweetie has issued a statement, calling the incident “unfortunate.”

The footage captured their elevator fight, which TMZ reported took place in a North Hollywood apartment complex that Saweetie was renting in 2020. In the video, Saweetie is seen taking a swing at Quavo while the elevator is open before trying to pick up a briefcase, which Quavo grabs as he drags her to the floor of the elevator. Saweetie appears to remain on the floor for the duration of the elevator ride, and although the video does not capture any audio, the rappers seem to exchange a few words as Quavo exits the elevator and props the door open with the orange case while waiting for her to hoist herself up off the ground and limp out.

“This unfortunate incident happened a year ago,” Saweetie told Billboard in a statement on Thursday (April 1). “While we have reconciled since then and moved past this particular disagreement, there were simply too many other hurdles to overcome in our relationship and we have both since moved on. I kindly ask that everyone respect my privacy during this time.”

TMZ also reported Thursday that the Los Angeles Police Department is currently investigating the footage that was released online earlier this week. Law enforcement sources told the outlet that LAPD detectives want to meet with both parties separately to discuss the incident and what happened before and after.

Saweetie first announced she was single March 19 on Twitter, writing that she’d suffered “too much betrayal and hurt behind the scenes” and that being publicly showered with presents, from a Birkin to a Bentley, “don’t band aid scars and the love isn’t real when the intimacy is given to other women.” But she assured her followers that she’s walked away from the relationship “with a deep sense of peace and freedom.”

Quavo responded the same day on Twitter, expressing his discomfort with airing out dirty laundry from their relationship of nearly two years. “I know you want to make this into a show so I’ll play my part just this one time,” he said. “I had love for you and disappointed you did all that. You are not the woman I thought you were. I wish you nothing but the best.”
