Saweetie and Doja Cat teamed up for the girl power anthem of 2021, the celebratory “Best Friend.”
The accompanying Dave Meyers-directed video, released on Thursday (Jan. 7), opens with a skit featuring the duo lounging by the pool in luxurious outfits and jewelry. When a “fake woke misogynist” comes over to shoot his shot, the ladies have a telepathic conversation about how “that kind of crass virtue signaling is nothing but a less overtly nefarious form of toxic masculinity.”
After they dismiss the thirsty suitor, the BFFs begin trading verses over a thumping beat, hyping up each other’s success, beauty, loyalty and independence. “That’s my best friend, she a real bad b—h / Drive her own car, she don’t need no Lyft / In the strip club, know my girl gon’ tip / Now she twerkin’, she throw it out and come back in,” the duo boast in the catchy hook.
