Saweetie set the record straight regarding rumors that she and Cardi B are beefing and even hinted at a possible collab between the two.
In an interview with The Breakfast Club for International Women’s Day on Monday, Saweetie sat down with Angela Yee to discuss the collaborative environment within the music industry and how external forces sometimes pit female artists against one another.
“Yeah, our teams have definitely been talking. I think we’re just waiting for that right record,” the “Best Friend” rapper said. “But I think the media just likes to take things out of context, and I’m loving how women artists are starting to realize that sometimes it’s the media that creates something that’s not there. It shows maturity and it shows growth amongst me and my peers to not be affected by what the media says.”
Cardi’s sister Hennessy Carolina hinted at a possible Cardi and Saweetie collab in February after social media users thought she was shading the “Icy Girl” artist. “I never followed sawetie so wtf are you talking about and secondly saweetie manager and cardis spoke yesterday about a project so stop trying to create narratives!” Hennessy wrote as a response.

Both MCs aren’t ones to turn down an opportunity to work with other female artists: Saweetie and Doja Cat enlisted UK rapper Stefflon Don for the official “Best Friend” remix last week. And Cardi made it clear last month that she’s ready for her and Lizzo’s collab after she missed out on having the “Juice” singer in the “WAP” music video with Megan Thee Stallion.
