BEVERLY HILLS, CA – Last week, Gucci had its public apology dismissed by several high-profile members of the Hip Hop community in wake of the fashion house’s blackface controversy.
Floyd “Money” Mayweather is not included in said community when it comes to this issue.
The undefeated prizefighter literally went out of his way to double down on his support for the maligned Gucci when TMZ made him aware of the ongoing boycott during a Beverly Hills shopping trip Monday evening (February 11).
“I like to live life and do what I like to do. I’m not no follower, I do what the fuck I want to do,” Mayweather, 40, told the TMZ cameraman. “Because everybody say, ‘Wear this, don’t wear this,’ I’m going to wear what the fuck I want to wear. I’m about to go into Gucci.”
Mayweather later returned with several bags in tow while still gleaming with his defiance.
The stuntin’ did nothing for the amusement of Royce Da 5’9, who called out The Money Team boss out on Twitter.
“Floyd I don’t think you realize how important you are to us …. You owe more than just politically correct jibber jabber,” Nickel Nine stated. “If you’re not offended by a black face on clothing than you shouldn’t be offended by this tweet. Do better …”
When asked about his purchase amount, Mayweather couldn’t specify how many racks he dropped inside the Italian designer’s walls, but he guestimated the entire trip was “$200k-300k.”
Hip Hop fashion pioneer Dapper Dan (who collaborated with Gucci in 2017) recently announced that he was meeting with the company’s CEO in his Harlem hometown to get the root of the problem.
