In an unlucky year like 2020, a shooting star can promise a lot of hope. And Rod Wave has that locked down while in lockdown mode, according to the accompanying visual for his new single “Shooting Star.”
On Sunday, he released the song and Yawn Rico-directed video, which starts off with a hopeful phone conversation between the 21-year-old hitmaker and his mother about his strong work ethic and resilience. Wave never loses sight of that in the verses nor in the clip, where he bunkers down in the recording studio, shines on stage and peruses around the mall to meet up with fans.
“My family out the bottom but the youngin’ took a better route/ Woke up gang, face shot gang, bro don’t let me down/ Don’t say a thing, we better now, Rod Wave got cheddar now,” he raps in the first verse.
His sophomore album Pray 4 Love debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 in April. He released the deluxe version in August with 11 additional tracks featuring Yo Gotti, Lil Baby and ATR Son Son.
