While quarantining at his home in Park City, Utah, Post Malone is working on his new album, which he says is inspired by what’s going on in the world right and, he hopes, will “uplift people’s spirits.”

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal Magazine, Malone said he’s kind of digging “just vib[ing]-out and [seeing] where my brain takes me — this has been a perfect time to make music, and to write songs about what’s going on currently.”

Those vibe sessions are taking place in the same mansion where Posty and his crew performed that all-Nirvana covers show, which raised more than $1 million for the UN Foundation’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund. In the WSJ chat, in which Malone talked about his stake in the Maison No. 9 wine line, the “Circles” rapper said he’s working on the killer follow-up to last year’s Hollywood’s Bleeding album.

“There’s so much to say in these times that will give people hope and hopefully uplift people’s spirits,” he said of the new songs. “Because it’s a dark time in America. It’s a dark time in the world. Honestly, for a songwriter to be in the house all day is a blessing and a curse. In the darkest of times I’m just trying to make something beautiful out of it.”

Forced to cut short his Runaway Tour in mid-March due to the COVID-19 shutdown, Malone said he really misses the “rush and the thrill” of hearing audiences calling out his name as he steps onstage, though he’s thankful for the time to be more introspective and think about “how [to] be a better person and help out more.” As he’s stepped outside of his comfort zone while making the new music, Malone said he’s come up with the best songs he’s written so far. For real.

“And I probably say that every album cycle, but for me it feels so special,” he told the magazine. “I want to make an album that will uplift and show that people are not alone in their times of loneliness and worry and that at the end of the day we all just need to show love to everyone on the planet and figure things out. So we’re working pretty hard, and I think we’re making some incredible stuff.”

Posty, who just turned 25, also has big plans for his first big trip after the lockdown. “I have a big-ass boat chartered in Greece,” he said. “So the day this all ends I’m getting my ass right over there.”
