OGMaco has reportedly died at the age of 32, just weeks following what seemed to be a suicide attempt.

TMZ has reported that the Atlanta rapper, famous for his 2014 track “U Guessed It,” passed away on Thursday (December 26) in a hospital.

Maco (born Benedict Ihesiba Jr.) had been receiving treatment since December 12 after suffering a gunshot wound to the head. The injury is believed to have been self-inflicted.

According to TMZ, the rapper fell into a coma and his condition deteriorated, making it impossible for doctors to revive him.

Doctors reportedly had difficulty performing a proper brain scan on Maco in an effort to eliminate the toxins in his system.

He passed away in a Los Angeles hospital, surrounded by his family.

OG Maco’s tragic death came shortly after his family shared an update, stating that he was in “critical but stable condition” and they remained hopeful for his recovery.

“We want to inform OG Maco’s fans, friends, and supporters that he is currently in critical but stable condition. He is receiving the best possible care and we are staying hopeful as he continues to fight,” they posted on Instagram.

“At this time, we kindly request that you respect our privacy but if you would like to send us any messages or have anything you wish to get to the family, please reach out via DM.”

The statement added: “Please note, all official updates regarding OG Maco’s health will come directly from his official social media accounts. This will be the only source for valid information.

“We thank you for your understanding, support, and continued prayers during this difficult time.”

The family has yet to publicly address his death.

Maco made it to the Billboard Hot 100 with the aforementioned “U Guessed It,” which also had a remix featuring 2 Chainz. He was among the first artists signed to Quality Control Music, the prominent Southern rap label behind stars like Lil Baby, Migos, and Lil Yachty.

He was also part of XXL’s 2015 Freshman class, alongside artists like Vince Staples, Fetty Wap, and DeJ Loaf.

Maco released one studio album, several mixtapes, and EPs, but his career was affected by multiple health challenges, including a serious car accident that resulted in broken bones and vision issues.

He was also diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis, a flesh-eating disease that caused significant disfigurement to his face.
