Just in case anyone out there still thinks it’s a good idea to tell Cardi B who she should put in her videos, think again. The rapper took to Twitter on Sunday (Aug. 9) to defend a cameo from her pal model Kylie Jenner in the “Wap” video after some fans insisted the Keep Up With the Kardashians star be removed from the eye-popping visual for Cardi’s collab with Megan Thee Stallion.
When a fan retweeted a freeze frame of Normani doing the splits in her cameo and complained, “Normani did ALL this and Kylie walked down the hall and opened a door. If that’s not a perfect visual indication of Black women having to do the most and white women do the bare minimum to get somewhere, I don’t know what is.”
Well, those were fighting words, because Cardi set the record straight right away. “Normani is one of the best female artist that dances Like she dances her f—kin ass off!” Cardi wrote. “Why would she open a door? Please tell me how that would make sense? The best part of the song is the beat & hook it what makes you want to shake your ass. Not everything is about race. Theres issues out here in the world that is about race that I preach all the time about. This is not about f–kin race.” (According to multiple reports, Cardi’s tweets have since been deleted.)
When another fan opined that, “Normani danced, that’s her talent! Kylie strutted like a model, that’s her talent! People just weird!,” Cardi wrote simply, “Exactly.”
The heated response came after the launch of a change.org petition to have the 23-year-old model removed from the cameo-packed video that also features Rubi Rose, Sukihana, Mulatto and Rosalia; at press time the petition had more than 65,000 of the requested 75,000.
