Lil Wayne has hardly been MIA from the music scene in 2020, dropping his 13th studio album Funeral in January. The album, which hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on Feb. 14, was noticeably absent on the 2021 Grammy nominations list.
While the album received a nod for best recording package, it did not receive a single nomination in the general or rap categories.
The rapper took to Twitter on Sunday (Dec. 20) to share his thoughts on the snub, writing, “As an artist, when I see da Grammys coming up & I’m not involved nor invited; I wonder. Is it me, my musik, or just another technicality?” he pondered. “I look around w respect & wonder competitively am I not worthy?! Then I look around & see 5 Grammys looking bak at me & I go to the studio.”

Weezy previously won best rap solo performance for “A Milli,” best rap song for “Lollipop,” best rap performance by a duo or group for his “Swagga Like Us” collab and best rap album for Tha Carter III in 2008. He later took home the Grammy for best rap performance for “No Problem” in 2016.
The rapper is not the first to express disappointment in the 2021 Grammys list. Both The Weeknd and Ellie Goulding, who released albums this year, shared their frustration toward the Recording Academy.
