Lil Uzi Vert has recorded almost 700 songs over the last 18 months as he prepares to deliver his highly-anticipated album The Pink Tape, according to Generation Now co-founder Don Cannon.

Cannon made the revelation during an appearance on Math Hoffa’s My Expert Opinion podcast, where he named Uzi as one of the best artists he’s worked with alongside the legendary Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes.

“I gotta say him because he’s non-stop,” Cannon said of Uzi. “Right now, we working on the album and he got 680 songs [from the last] 18 months. I call him the Kobe Bryant when he was saying he used to shoot jump shots after the game. That’s what he doing. He give you a hit and do five songs a day. Nobody believe me. I bring them to the studio to see.

“Sober, high, when he used to get high and now he sober doing it. Ain’t nothing changed. He one of them guys, and it’s different because you’re getting all different kind of songs out of him. You might get a rock song, a real rap song because he really rap, you might get the melodic shit that he do.”

He continued: “And that’s why I referenced Lil Wayne and them because Lil Wayne was the same. He’ll rap you to death, but he’ll still pull out a guitar and give you something.”

While The Pink Tape has been in the works for well over a year, Lil Uzi Vert will have a plethora of content to sift through. The LP will serve as the Philly rapper’s first album since 2020’s Eternal Atake.

A December 2022 release date came and went before Uzi teased February 2023 as the next target, which doesn’t appear to be happening either.

Last year, Don Cannon confirmed that he’ll be handling mixing duties for The Pink Tape and also revealed that the project won’t feature any outside guests.

In the meantime, Uzi’s “Just Wanna Rock” is still wreaking havoc on the charts as the party-starting anthem sits just outside the Top 10 at No. 11 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100.
