“Montero” might be Lil Nas X‘s latest Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit, but the name won’t appear on a driver’s license soon because the rapper says he failed his test.
He took to Twitter exclaim, “OMG I DID IT! I FAILED MY DRIVERS TEST!” But he took it in stride by prancing along to “Montero” outside in his new TikTok video. “At 22 years old I finally took my drivers test today,” the caption reads before the clip shows him dancing in a circle, and the new text states, “I failed.”
But one Twitter user called out Lil Nas X for his July 9, 2020-dated video, which first teased the song “Montero,” that shows the rapper behind the wheel of a moving vehicle. “Then wtf is this,” someone wrote as a reply to his TikTok video, prompting the hitmaker to shoot back a guilty-looking blue emoji shoving its face with a cookie. (Some fans did come to his defense, noting that it’s possible he has a driving permit if not a license.)
The rapper did tell Rolling Stone in a May 2019 interview that he didn’t have a driver’s license. “There was no point in a license,” he said at the time, “’cause when am I gonna have a car?”
But Lil Nas X did get some good news this week, as “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” logs a third week at No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 this week (chart dated May 1).
