LilNas X definitely knows how to bide his time, but in two weeks, the wait for his new music will finally be over.
On Tuesday (March 9), the “Old Town Road” rapper took to his Twitter to announce that the time has finally come for him to release his long-teased single “Montero (Call Me by Your Name).” In a short tweet, Lil Nas X revealed that the single would be officially released on March 26.
Along with tweeting the release date, Lil Nas X shared some artwork for the single as well. A reinterpretation of Michelangelo’s fresco “The Creation of Adam,” the artwork sees two versions of Lil Nas X; the first is floating on a cloud, fully nude (save for some well-placed plants) and sporting a long black braid while aiming an arrow at his second self, who is reclining on another cloud with feathered fingernails and flaming red hair.
The rapper first teased his new single all the way back in July 2020, when he teased a clip of the song on social media. Fans immediately responded to the track, including none other than Rihanna, who told Lil Nas X in a livestream that she thought the clip was “banging,” and even told him “you’re killing it, I’m happy for you.”
