On Tuesday (Dec. 8), one month after King Von was shot and killed at age 26 in an Atlanta nightclub, his first posthumous music video topped YouTube’s trends.

Having grown up and made his way out of Chicago’s O Block, the rapper knew his hometown’s dangerous lifestyle well. Directed by Joán based on a treatment King Von wrote, the “Wayne’s Story” clip finds the late star narrating the tale of a teenager who gave in to the violent life of the streets.

“He think that he famous, he be on the news / He don’t give a damn, he be skippin’ school / Breakin’ all the rules, givin’ n—-s blues / School or the streets, shorty gotta choose / He picked the wrong one, shorty finna lose,” he flows.

“Wayne’s Story” was intended to become a three-part series, like King Von’s breakout “Crazy Story.” Though he was unable to complete the trilogy, the new video lives on.
