Kid Cudi has been tapped to star in and produce renowned animated shorts creator Jeron Braxtonan’s directorial debut, which is set in a dystopian future.
Deadline has reported that the rapper/actor will appear in a new animated monster movie titled Slime, which will also feature writing from Brian Ash, co-executive producer of The Boondocks, Black Dynamite: The Animated Series and Freaknik: The Musical.
The film, which is being co-produced by Cudi’s Mad Solar production company, will follow Muna, an optimistic young woman who has fallen on hard times and signs up for a paid medical trial. After unknowingly being injected with an unspecified creature’s slime, she’s subjected to trippy visions and develops uncontrollable powers.
Eventually becoming the prey herself, in a desperate move of self-preservation Muna kidnaps Glenn (Kid Cudi), a lab worker from the mega-corporation who experimented on her. Together, they venture off into the unknown in search of a cure.
“I’m always looking for what’s new and always trying to elevate what we know about music, film, TV, and animation. Jeron is a powerhouse creative at the forefront of culture, pushing boundaries with everything he does. I’m grateful to have him on the team and am ready to see him bring Slime to life. Mad Solar, we here,” Cudi said in a statement.
“I’m extremely excited to bring Slime to life and super appreciative to everyone around me who helped make this possible,” added Braxton. “Animation has always been an opportunity for me to shift perspective on issues affecting Americans and more explicitly the black diaspora, and now we can use the genre of horror and cutting-edge technology to create an insane evolution for the medium.”
In 2022, Kid Cudi flexed his Hollywood chops by joining forces with Kenya Barris for the animated Netflix special Entergalactic, for which earned an Emmy nomination.
The series, which followed “a young man going on a journey to discover love,” boasted a star-studded voice cast including Ty Dolla $ign, 070 Shake, Teyana Taylor, Jaden Smith, Timothée Chalamet and Cudi himself.
While the release date for Slime has been kept under wraps, the Man on the Moon maestro will have his hands full next year as he’s set to join Red Hot Chili Peppers on the road for select dates.
The band’s Unlimited Love Tour continues with shows across North America between May 28 and July 30, with Ice Cube, Ken Carson and others also serving as supporting acts.
Cudi is also set to release his new album INSANO in January, which he’s claimed will be “album of the year” and have “wonderful” guest artists across its hefty 40-plus-song tracklist.
