Kid Cudi is explaining the Kurt Cobain-inspired dress he wore on Saturday Night Live.
On Saurday (April 10), the 37-year-old rapper made his musical guest debut on the long-running NBC sketch comedy show, performing songs from his 2020 album, Man on the Moon III: The Chosen. While delivering “Sad People,” Cudi surprised viewers by donning a spaghetti-strap floral-print dress similar to ones worn by the late Nirvana frontman in the 1990s.
The following day, Cudi detailed the origins of the dress in a tweet, noting it was designed by Off-White founder and Louis Vuitton artistic director Virgil Abloh.
“I told him I wanted to show love to Kurt w a floral print sundress and this man made a masterpiece,” the rapper wrote. “Thank You @virgilabloh ur a f—in genius!! Love you man we did it!!!”
Cudi added that he’s “doin a collection w Off White and the dress will be included!!”

Abloh took to Instagram to share a photo of Cudi wearing the dress on SNL. “Freedom is, as freedom does. feel free. @Off____White™ specially reserved for Mr. Rager only,” the designer wrote in the captioned.
This isn’t Cudi’s first collaboration with Abloh. Last May, the artists teamed up for merch inspired by the rapper’s single at the time, “Leader of the Delinquents.” The chic Abloh-designed T-shirt featured a sketch of Cudi with the song’s name emblazoned across the back.
Meanwhile, during his SNL performance of “Tequila Shots,” Cudi also rocked a fuzzy olive-green cardigan similar to the one Cobain famously wore during Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged in New York live performance, which aired months before his 1994 death. Underneath, Cudi sported a shirt with a headshot of late SNL great Chris Farley.
Back on Twitter, another fan asked Cudi where he found the Cobain-inspired cardigan. “Cactus Plant Flea Market!!” the rapper answered, referencing the Los Angeles-based streetwear brand.
