Kendrick Lamar’s “Luther” Breaks Streaming Records and Dominates Charts

Kendrick Lamar‘s recent collaboration with SZA, titled “Luther,” has reached over one billion streams on Spotify. Released in November, it became his quickest track to hit the mark, overtaking “Not Like Us,” which reached the same milestone in eight months. In contrast, “Luther” accomplished it in only seven.

This track marks the eleventh time one of Lamar’s songs has surpassed a billion streams on the platform. Other songs in this group include “All the Stars,” “Humble,” and “Money Trees.”

Over the past year, Kendrick Lamar has consistently topped charts.

“Luther” in particular broke records, spending 13 weeks straight at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and leading the Hip Hop chart for 25 weeks.

Kendrick has recently celebrated a year filled with cultural and musical success.

He won five awards at the BET Awards, which were held in his hometown of Los Angeles. Among his honors were Album of the Year, Best Hip Hop Artist, Best Collaboration Video of the Year, and Video Director of the Year, the last two shared with Dave Free, his longtime collaborator.

Lamar was present at the televised event to accept the Album of the Year award and addressed the audience briefly.

He said: “I ain’t been here in a long time but I always kept my heart BET. I always made sure they representing the culture right and they put me in the midst of the cycle we represent and that’s real, true, down to earth music that people can feel so I always give my heart to BET.

“To my folks in the building, to my LA natives in the back, I see you. God first and foremost, my company pgLang, SZA in the crowd, we on tour right now, please come to the show. We gonna keep this thing going, I appreciate y’all.”

Kendrick Lamar and SZA are now on their Grand National tour, which will finish its North American leg before moving on to stadium performances in Europe.
