Kendrick Lamar has quickly responded to Drake’s recent livestream, where he took shots at several people, including Kendrick himself.
The 6 God appeared on Canadian streamer xQc’s Kick channel this past weekend, where he began by throwing a jab at his rival Kendrick while introducing himself to the viewers.
“I’m here — mind, body, and soul fully intact, in case you were wondering. You need facts to take me out; fairytales won’t do it,” he said.
This bold statement clearly referenced Kendrick’s diss tracks, in which he accuses Drake of inappropriate behavior with young girls, associating with sexual predators, and fathering a hidden daughter.
The OVO Sound artist also dissed Steve Lacy, calling him a “fragile” opponent, and told xQc to turn off The Weeknd’s music when the host began playing the artist’s 2016 hit “Starboy.”
Kendrick responded to the stream in a text conversation with his friend Reli, who shared screenshots of their exchange on Instagram Stories.
In the messages, Reli tells Kendrick: “You done turned blood into a streamer on Phillies [laughing face emojis],” to which Kendrick responds with several laughing face emojis.
Reli then says: “That’s a damn shame,” to which Kendrick asks: “He trippin??!”
Reli replies: “Blood don’t want no smoke Philly gang,” before censoring his next message.
This recent (though relatively mild) exchange between Kendrick Lamar and Drake comes shortly after the release of Kendrick’s new album GNX.
Dropped unexpectedly on Friday, November 22, the 12-track project includes some pointed remarks directed at his Canadian counterpart, although in a more subtle manner compared to the diss tracks Kendrick released earlier this year.
On the opening track, “wacced out murals,” Kendrick raps: “N-ggas from my city couldn’t entertain old boy / Promisin’ bank transactions and even bitcoin / I never peaced it up, that shit don’t sit well with me / Before I take a truce, I’ll take ’em to Hell with me.”
He also alludes to Drake’s controversial diss song “Taylor Made Freestyle” and Snoop Dogg’s apparent endorsement of it: “Snoop posted ‘Taylor Made,’ I prayed it was the edibles / I couldn’t believe it, it was only right for me to let it go.”
Tha Doggfather quickly responded to the line on X (formerly Twitter), joking: “K dot new album GNX [explosion emoji] [fire emojis] It was the edibles [facepalm emoji] [grinning face emoji] [fist bump emoji] west west king.”
