Kanye West’s presidential bid has gotten off to a rocky start at best. After boldly announcing that he intended to take a shot at winning the White House on the independent Birthday Party ticket on July 4, West has struggled to get on the ballot in a number of states, fully missing the deadline in more than half the nation due to his late entry.
And while his unlikely effort has failed to garner much support so far, there is at least one fellow rapper who has ‘Ye’s back.
“Ima let y’all finish…. But you got me f–ked up you think I ain’t voting for Ye,” tweeted DaBaby on Wednesday morning (Aug. 12). The first part of his tweet is, of course, a reference to West’s infamous 2009 VMAs moment.
So far, DaBaby is one of the only public figures to step forward in support of West, adding his name to a short list that includes Tesla founder Elon Musk and Chance the Rapper, and, in theory, ‘Ye’s wife, Kim Kardashian West, who has so far only retweeted her husband’s original announcement and not specifically endorsed his bid.
John Legend, Katy Perry and Jamie Foxx, however, have adamantly opposed the effort.
The latest wrinkle in West’s run is a report that his name was removed from the ballot in his home state of Illinois — just days after New Jersey took similar action — with political analyst April Ryan tweeting that the rapper may face election fraud investigations due to “faulty signatures” submitted to officials.
The news comes amid a report from Vice magazine week that the Republican Party has helped West submit the required signatures to appear on the ballot in the swing state of Wisconsin in a seeming effort to thwart presumptive Democratic candidate former Vice President Joe Biden’s chances at beating Pres. Trump.
