Kanye West has not one, but two appearances on French Montana‘s latest project Mac & Cheese 5, which also includes a number of other big features.
Ye’s first appearance on the mixtape — which hit streaming platforms on Friday (February 23) — is on a song called “Stand United” alongside Buju Banton and SAINt JHN. The track hears him go back-and-forth with French Montana over production from Dem Jointz and Ye himself.
“I done been in the game 20 years and that’s on Donda,” Kanye raps in the verse, with French responding in the next line: “I done been in the game 15 years, please remind ’em.”
The rapper and producer then appears on “Where They At” alongside Westside Gunn, which is also produced by Dem Jointz with BoogzDaBeast.
The track begins with a recording of Kanye West confronting paparazzi after famously walking into a street sign in 2013. He goes back-and-forth with French Montana once again in the second verse, recalling the days when he was only known as a producer before admitting he doesn’t know the whereabouts of his 24 Grammys.
“Remember when they asked dumb shit like, ‘Can he rap?’/ I don’t even know where most my Grammy’s at,” he raps at the start of his verse.
Kanye West and French Montana previously joined forces in 2016 on “Figure It Out” with Nas, and they’ve had a strong relationship since.
French previously claimed Ye was working on something “bigger than music” in April 2019, prior to the release of Jesus Is King in October that year.
“He’s working on something that’s so crazy,” he told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe at the time. “I think he’s working on something bigger than music. When I went to go see him, he showed me something that was so crazy. But, that’s what make people like him stand out, because he always think outside the box… really outside the box.
“Shout out to Kanye. No, but definitely he’s special, man. He’s special. I feel like he’s going to touch something that’s going to change everybody’s life.”
French Montana shared a text message from Kanye West in February 2022 about wanting to help him become a billionaire.
“This is why I reached out,” Ye said in the message. “Your mind and creativity. I’ll get you to a billion.”
Mac & Cheese 5 was first announced in November and marks the fifth installment in French Montana’s mixtape series, which started in 2009.
The project was originally set to be released in January but suffered a pushback at the last minute.
Other features on Mac & Cheese 5 include Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Lil Baby, JID, Lil Durk, Jeremih, Bryson Tiller and Meek Mill.
