Kanye West issued one of his favorite rappers Ma$e a public apology on Twitter yesterday (Sept. 20) for the line in his 2010 track “Devil in a New Dress.”
The Chicago rapper took a jab at Ma$e in his My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy hit, featuring Rick Ross, when he rapped, “Don’t leave while you’re hot that’s how Mase screwed up.”
“Ma$e is right about that line … I always felt funny about that line,” West wrote on Twitter. “Ma$e is one of my favorite rappers and I based a lot of my flows off of him … I’m the king of ‘ooh can I get away with this bars’ so I reap what I sow when the next generation does the same to me.”
On Friday (Sept. 18), the Grammy-nominated Harlem MC and minister requested West apologize to him and his family for “alluding to the fact that me following God at the height of my career was a bad decision,” he wrote on Instagram. The former Bad Boy Records rapper announced his retirement from the rap game on April 20, 1999 on Hot 97 to pursue a “calling from God” — similar to ‘Ye’s spiritual awakening in recent years that has led him to ditch recording secular music.
His IG post came after West’s Twitter tirade about his recording contracts, which Ma$e noted, “the same system and mindset that you are fighting against today, used you to shame me for leaving the very same system!”
