The body count on action hero Jason Statham’s wall of infamy is easily in the high triple digits. The gritty British actor known for brutally dispatching reams of bad guys in three of good pal director Guy Ritchie’s gangster flicks — Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch and Revolver — has re-teamed with his friend on the new thriller Wrath of Man.
It’s his first-time co-star, though, who made a big impression on the notoriously stern-faced thespian. In an interview with USA Today, Statham, 53, said his latest gangster baddie, H, has to do some pretty nasty things during his undercover stint avenging his son’s murder, not the least of which is blowing away an A-list Billboard chart champ.
As first revealed in the film’s trailer, Statham doesn’t even blink when he has to shoot rapper Post Malone’s character, and he told the paper that the killing was definitely not a low-key criticism of Posty’s music. “Far from it. Post came in with this big enthusiasm for being killed that day,” he said of the rapper whose second on-screen credit lists him as “Robber No. 6.”
“He’s like, ‘I can’t wait for you to kill me, man.’ I got sucked into that enthusiasm and he did a great job. It’s just a shame that it was a short moment together,” he said of their brief, bullet-riddled scene. “But I was privileged to pull the trigger in our little scene.” Unfortunately, Malone did not get to live out another dream after the cameras stopped rolling.
Asked if there was any post-shoot talk about a possible musical collaboration, Jason said it was a no for him. “He invited me to come make a record,” Statham shared. “I quickly relieved him of that bad choice.”
