Karl Jordan Jr., the convicted killer of Jam Master Jay, has reportedly been stabbed while in custody at the MDC Brooklyn jail, where he is awaiting sentencing. According to the NY Daily News, the 41-year-old Jordan, who was one of the two men convicted for the murder of the Run-DMC icon, was attacked during a fight over the weekend. Although he was hospitalized with injuries, he survived the assault.
A source stated that the fight occurred due to tensions between two rival gangs.
In 2023, Jay Bryant (49) became the third individual charged in the case.
In February of last year, the trial for two of the three defendants concluded, with both Jordan and Ronald Washington found guilty on all counts.
The three men are believed to have entered Jam Master Jay’s studio and fled after the shooting. Jordan fired two shots at close range, one of which hit the victim in the head, killing him. Prosecutors were able to prove that Bryant entered the building just before the shooting and left behind an item of clothing at the crime scene, which contained his DNA.
An investigation revealed that the murder was linked to a drug deal gone wrong, with Jam Master Jay allegedly obtaining around 10 kilograms of cocaine (worth an estimated $1.7 million) from a Midwest supplier months before his death.
In April, Washington filed a motion to appeal his guilty verdict, arguing that the prosecution failed to establish a connection between him and the alleged “drug conspiracy” at the heart of the murder.
According to court documents obtained by HipHopDX, Washington is now seeking a judgment of acquittal. Alternatively, he is requesting a new trial.
Washington contends that the testimony from the other defendants did not implicate him in the crime and therefore, “for the foregoing reasons, Ronald Washington’s motion for a judgment of acquittal under Rule 29 should be granted, or, in the alternative, a new trial should be ordered.”
Previously, the final suspect in the case was reportedly considering a plea deal.
