The anticipated project is slated to arrive later this year.
Ice Spice’s debut album Y2K is one step closer to reaching fans. The Bronx native revealed on Tuesday (March 5) that she’s finished recording for the highly anticipated project.
“I finished recording y2k the album ^.^,” she wrote to her X and Instagram accounts on Tuesday afternoon (March 5). The LP’s title is inspired by her birthday landing on Jan. 1, 2000.
Ahead of Billboard‘s 2024 Women in Music event Wednesday (March 6), where she’ll be honored with the Hitmaker award, the Grammy-nominated star opened up about putting her all into this project, and she’s happy with the outcome.
“I think this is some of my best work,” she told Billboard while also hinting that “it’s not going to be too long — it’s going to be sweet and to the point.”
The “Munch” rapper scored four top 10 entries on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2023 alone, and she’ll look to add to that number this year with her debut album, which she isn’t ready to put a release date on just yet.
“There’s so many different types of hits,” she told Billboard while defining what a hit means to her. “But my favorite is the one that’s just, like, culturally important.”
“Fans know the lyrics and care about it. They just love the song,” she added. “Growing up, so many songs that I thought were hits and statistically weren’t really, like numberswise, if you care about that. But in my heart, it’s a hit and I know all the lyrics.”
The 24-year-old’s winning streak continued into 2024 as she received plenty of airtime being seated next to Taylor Swift throughout Super Bowl LVIII on Feb. 11. Ice Spice also appeared in a Starry commercial during the big game.
