In celebration of Jay-Z’s 50th birthday, Benny the Butcher took to Instagram to share a behind-the-scenes video of a listening session for Griselda’s WWCD that caused the Hip Hop legend to have a screwface hearing the steely bars coming from the speakers.
In the video, Benny and Westside Gunn are bopping their heads to the album standout “Freddie HotSpot.” Benny can be heard rapping “This for the Ps and my co-Ds, I’m a federal wit’/My lawyer told me to breathe, them charges never gon’ stick let’s go” while Gunn enters with “Ayo, we was baggin’ some big nigga came through clappin’/I ducked behind French, got the MAC and started (brr).” The lyrical assault causes Hov to enter the shot nodding his head and looking around the room to verify the heat he was hearing at that moment.
“Played WWCD for Jay before it dropped… Happy G day to a person who inspired a lot of us,” Benny says in the caption. Benny along with Gunn signed a management deal with Roc Nation back in August.
In the official review of the project, HipHopDX awarded the album a 4.5 rating saying “WWCD is arguably this generation’s 36 Chambers — a blueprint that a new era of hard rappers can now rever as a holy grail of modern street Hip Hop.”
