Donald Glover revealed he recently became a dad for the third time in an interview with GQ published on Tuesday (Sept. 29).

“You know, I had [a kid] during the coronavirus,” he told actress-screenwriter-director-producer Michaela Coel during their Zoom chat for the magazine. “Yeah, it was nuts. I was in the hospital bed. My son had just been born, like, an hour before and I was watching the George Floyd video. It was such a weird moment.

“It was such an intense, weird moment, because I’m watching that video and it’s like eight minutes long, so you’re sitting there and I had just had this amazing, joyful, expanding moment, plus my dad had passed away recently, so [my son] was named after my father,” the star continued. “I don’t even know what, really, the word is to describe it. It was just expanding: the empathy and compassion and the terror and the joy of it.”

lover and partner Michelle White are also the parents to sons Legend, 4, and Drake, 2. Though typically private about his personal life, the rapper got candid during the dual interview about the prospects of expanding his family even further, and expressed hopes of eventually having a little girl to round out the brood of boys.

“Because adopting kids, my family adopting kids … And we actually have been talking about [it], because we have three boys so I’m like, ‘Oh, it might be nice to be get a girl in there,'” he added. “So I think all those are great options. But it is hard.”

Baby number three isn’t the only thing Glover has welcomed during the pandemic, either. Back in March, the rapper dropped his fourth album under his Childish Gambino moniker — 3.15.20 — in the earliest days of the coronavirus outbreak. The LP features collaborations with both Ariana Grande (“Time”) and 21 Savage (“12.38”).
