Donald Glover has said that he won’t be returning for season two of Mr. & Mrs. Smith despite the show being renewed by Amazon Prime.

Glover and his co-star Maya Erskine are not slated to lead the charge in the show’s second season, according to a report from Variety that ran on Tuesday (March 14).

Glover will still be credited as a co-creator and executive producer on the series alongside Francesca Sloane, who is set to return as showrunner.

“We are excited to announce that a second season of our groundbreaking spy series, ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith,’ is in the works for our global Prime Video customers,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, to the outlet. “The success of the first season, with its incredibly modern, sexy reinvention of the original film, is a testament to the brilliant creators Donald Glover and Francesa Sloane. We are proud to bring you another season filled with unforgettable journeys and new adventures.”

Reps for Glover didn’t return Variety‘s request for comment, and Amazon declined to confirm or deny whether the multi-hyphenate would return to the titular role. However, it is speculated that Glover’s musical commitments as Childish Gambino may have influenced his decision not to return to the show.

Earlier this week, Glover returned with his new album Atavista, which is equipped with some huge features.

The rapper/singer released the project by surprise, kickstarting what’s set to be an unusually busy year for him on the music front.

Atavista is the “finished” version of 3.15.20, the album he released in March 2020 and which has since been removed from streaming platforms.

This new iteration features official song titles, reworked tracks, and a slightly short tracklisting. There are also new vocals from Young Nudy and Summer Walker, along with previous guests 21 Savage, Ariana Grande, Ink and Kadhja Bonet.

Childish Gambino announced the arrival of Atavista on X while also teasing an upcoming vinyl version that will have a visual for each track.

“ATAVISTA is streaming now,” he wrote. “This album is the finished version of ‘3.15.20’, the album i put out 4 years ago. There’s a special vinyl coming soon w/ visuals for each song.”

In addition, Bino confirmed that his next album — which he previously revealed is called Bando Stone in the New World and is a soundtrack to a film of the same name he is developing — will be released this summer.

It is being billed as his final album under his rap name.

Shortly after dropping Atavista, the rapper/actor announced The New World Tour.

The 58-date jaunt will take Donald Glover across North America, Europe, and Oceania between August 2024 and February 2025. He’ll be joined on the road by fellow genre-bending stars Willow Smith and Amaarae.

The New World Tour kicks off on August 11 in Oklahoma City before venturing to cities such as Toronto, Philadelphia, Boston, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, New Orleans, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle.

The North American leg concludes on October 3 in Chicago. The European excursion runs from October 31 until December 5, with stops in Milan, Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam, London and other overseas hotspots.

Finally, Gambino and co. will jet to New Zealand and Australia early next year for five dates, bringing the globe-trekking tour to a close.
