DJ DJPremier generated plenty of internet chatter on Wednesday (September 18) when he teased a new Gang Starr album. Well apparently, Preemo wasn’t playing around.
On Thursday (September 19), he announced a new Gang Starr single called “Family and Loyalty” via Instagram. The track presumably features unreleased lyrics from the late Guru as well as some news ones from J. Cole.
“DROPPIN’ AT MIDNIGHT,” the caption reads.
Hip Hop fans were both noticeably excited and understandably confused by the news. Guru, of course, died in February 2010 after going into cardiac arrest.
Two months after his passing, Premier told the Examiner more Gang Starr material was eminent but nothing ever materialized. Now, the timing is evidently right.
Premier’s first Instagram post about the Gang Starr album also hints at Nas’ involvement.
