Diddy’s Last Train to Paris turns 10 Monday (Dec. 14). In honor of his fifth album, which debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard 200, the hip-hop luminary provides never-before-seen studio sessions with Kid Cudi, Busta Rhymes, and more.
Though Diddy didn’t feature the Man of the Moon star on his seminal album, in a newly surfaced clip, he and Cudi previously whipped up melodies in the studio. Mouthing off “Now or never” to the track, Cudi aims to find a comfortable flow on Puff’s unknown track. “Just gotta get that flow and figure out something,” says Cudi.
In different studio session, Rhymes praises Diddy for his newfound sound while crafting LTTP. “It’s not left at all. It’s future, though. That’s why I’m feeling a little crazy like, ‘What the f–k?” Busta exclaims. Afterward, Diddy plays Notorious B.I.G.’s verse from “Angels” to Busta’s delight.
In a separate clip, Diddy recalls the moment he first played Pharrell LTTP and uncovered what Skateboard P dubbed “The New Black” sound. “So I played this s–t for Pharrell in the infantile stages. That n—a ain’t never amp me up. He said, ‘I ain’t gon’ front, n—a. You on to the new Black,” shares Diddy. “And I’m running with that. This s–t is the new Black. We got a lot of s–t inspiring us to be who we can be. We got Obama. We entering our f—in’ 20th year doing this s–t. We should be able to be the essence of who we want to be. This s–t is the new. We making new Black all around.”
Diddy and Dirty Money’s Dawn Richard and Kalenna Harper — who headlined Bad Boy’s R&B artists — released four singles from LTTP, most notably “Hello, Good Morning and “Coming Home,” with the latter peaking at No. 11 on the Hot 100. The album boasted appearances by Drake, Justin Timberlake, The Notorious B.I.G., Lil Wayne, Usher, and more.
