Michelle Williams has checked herself into a mental health facility to address her struggles with depression, according to TMZ.
The Destiny’s Child singer — who reunited with Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland at 2018’s Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival back in April — revealed the news in an Instagram post shared on Tuesday (July 17).
“For years I have dedicated myself to increasing awareness of mental health and empowering people to recognize when it’s time to seek help, support and guidance from those that love and care for your wellbeing,” she wrote. “I recently listened to the same advice I have given to thousands around the world and sought help from a great team of healthcare professionals.
“Today I proudly, happily and healthily stand here as someone who will continue to always lead by example as I tirelessly advocate for the betterment of those in need. If you change your mind, you can change your life.”
Williams has opened up about her mental health issues in the past. During a 2017 episode of The Talk, she spoke about her depression and admitted she didn’t know a name for what she was experiencing until she was in her 30s.
She also divulged that even at the height of Destiny’s Child’s success, she was periodically suicidal.
“It got really really bad … to the point of I was suicidal,” Williams said. “I was to that place where it got so dark and heavy because sometimes you feel like, ‘I’m the provider, I take care of people, I’m not supposed to be feeling this way — what do I do?’ I wanted out.”
