NEW YORK, NY – As fans continue deciphering Eminem’s surprise Kamikaze album bar-by-bar, The Breakfast Club was evidently busy doing the same thing.
On Friday’s episode (August 31), co-host Charlamagne Tha God responded to Em’s line about him on the track “The Ringer.”
When referencing the 2018 BET Cypher, Shady spits, “So finger-bang, Pootie Tang, Burger King/Gucci Gang, dookie, dang/Charlamagne gonna hate anyway, doesn’t matter what I say/Give me Donkey of the Day/What a way for 2018 to get underway/But I’m gonna say everything that I wanna say/Welcome to the slaughterhouse, bitch! (yeah).”
Charlamagne begins, “I just wanna say we’re almost in September. Ok, 2018 has been underway Eminem. You know what’s slick about that bar? He’s quoting me. I actually said that about a BET Cypher. I said the thing isn’t even orange and that was a reach. So, I quoted that verbatim and he said that in his bars just now.”
While he doesn’t really consider the line a diss, he took a minute to defend himself.
“I don’t hate,” he says. “I tell the truth. That’s not hatin’ me sayin’ Revival was wack ’cause clearly Eminem thought Revival was wack, too. That’s why he gave us this sneaky album called Kamikaze. He thought Revival was wack. He knows it was wack.”
From there, the Power 105.1 trio talks about the other artists who caught Shady’s rage, including Joe Budden, Tyler The Creator and Drake.
The Tyler The Creator line caused a little controversy for its use of a homophobic slur, something Charlamagne also touched on.
“Well, here’s the thing about freedom of speech, you have the freedom to say what you want, but people are free to be offended,” he said. And I’m sure they will be about this line — but he’s actually quoting something Tyler said about himself.
“Eminem has to understand when he calls Tyler that he’s not just throwing a shot at Tyler, he’s throwing a shot at millions of gay people around the globe. But I don’t think he cares.”
