Charlamagne Tha God has strongly criticized Drake for his lawsuit against Universal Music Group.
On Monday (December 2), during The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne shared his thoughts on Drake’s accusations that Universal Music Group used payola and streaming bots to increase the popularity of Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us,” as well as his defamation claim related to the song’s content.
“I told you Drake was going to sue. He’s a multi-billion dollar entity; no multi-billion dollar entity will let you call him a pedophile or sex offender without taking legal action,” Charlamagne said.
He also cautioned that Drake might be opening a legal can of worms, referencing things he himself has said on his diss tracks: “The person who actually has a defamation case here is Kendrick’s woman [Whitney Alford], because Drake not only accused Kendrick of abusing her, he also claimed that Dave Free, Kendrick’s business partner and friend, is the true father of one of Kendrick’s children.”
Charlamagne pointed out that before accusing someone else of defamation, Drake should make sure he’s not guilty of the same: “Drake accusing Kendrick of defamation is like the pot calling the kettle beige.”
The radio host continued his criticism, calling Drake the “Donkey of the Day” and accusing him of being a hypocrite, a sore loser, and someone who “just doesn’t get the culture of Hip Hop.”
“There was a time when Drake was all over Spotify playlists,” he added. “Stop pretending like you haven’t benefited from record label trickery. You’re acting like a ho just because you lost.”
“Simply because Kendrick Lamar defeated you—lyrically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. Anyone who says this is anything more than Drake’s feelings being hurt, you’re a ho too. An O-V-ho, to be specific.”
Charlamagne continued, “Drake, you’re in this mess because you gave up after hearing ‘Not Like Us.’ Kendrick dropped too much heat for you… You could’ve gone to the studio and made a hit, but you chose not to. Kendrick won. And he told you to fight, not to lawyer up.”
He ended his rant by giving Drake some advice: “Take a break, disappear for a while. Let nostalgia bring you back; people will miss you. Look at what J. Cole is doing—nobody even cares that he stepped out of the rap battle anymore!”
It remains unclear whether Drake will go ahead with his lawsuit against UMG over the claims mentioned. The Toronto rapper has not made any public comment about the “pre-action” legal filings or the criticism surrounding them.
