Blxst makes modern-day cookout music, the type of music that you would two-step to in the backyard, mouth full while holding a plate of food.

The L.A. crooner emits the laid-back, West Coast vibe that has become infamous with musicians who are from the region. Signed to Red Bull Records, the singer-songwriter, producer and rapper recruited fellow L.A. heads Ty Dolla $ign and Tyga for his single “Chosen,” and it’s accompanying video.

The collegiate-themed video finds the three musicians at a fictional HBCU, boo-loving on the quad, tailgating and partying as the Black Greeks do their traditional strolls and steps in the middle of the party. Its scenes pull from iconic films such as School Daze, Stomp the Yard and Love & Basketball.

“Chosen” first appeared on the deluxe version of his critically acclaimed debut solo EP No Love Lost, which has garnered more than 150 million streams since its release on Dec. 4, 2020. The project also peaked at No. 3 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Albums chart. Blxst also just dropped a surprise two-track EP called Just For Clarity featuring Drakeo the Ruler and Russ on March 12.

Billboard selected the multi-talented artist as one of six L.A. rappers to watch in 2021, as well as one of 15 hip-hop and R&B artists to watch in 2021
