Adam Levine made a surprise appearance during Saturday Night Live on March 27, performing alongside musical guest Jack Harlow on the rapper’s song “Same Guy.”
The 22-year-old Louisville rapper kicked off his SNL debut by performing a medley of “Tyler Herro” and hit song “Whats Poppin,” both from his major-label debut, That’s What They All Say, which dropped in December 2020.
The big surprise of the evening arrived during Harlow’s second performance, when he was joined by the Maroon 5 frontman on the laid-back “Same Guy.” For the first minute of the song, Levine is covered by darkness while sitting toward the back of the stage. The Studio 8H audience then erupted into applause when the singer stepped out from the shadows to provide his smooth falsetto over Harlow’s verses.
“I can’t keep lettin’ things slide/ Thought that I would change, but I’m the same guy/ Blamed it on my youth, but I know I’ve had time,” Levine, who sported an army green jacket and black sweatpants, crooned.
Last summer, Harlow scored his first No. 1 on Billboard’s Rhythmic Songs airplay chart with “Whats Poppin,” featuring DaBaby, Tory Lanez and Lil Wayne. The song — which was nominated for best rap performance at the this year’s Grammys — also reached the top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100.
The episode was hosted by SNL alum Maya Rudolph, who starred on the long-running NBC sketch comedy show from 2000 to 2007. During the show, the actress and comedian reprised her hilarious portrayals of Vice President Kamala Harris and Beyonce.
