A$AP Rocky is opening up about his time in Swedish prison in his new documentary Stockholm Syndrome, which premiered at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival Sunday night (June 14). But on the red carpet, he opened up about how “truly blessed” he felt to have his girlfriend Rihanna’s support in his life.
He told Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet in New York about her support for the documentary, which she also appears in. The A$AP Mob rapper emphasized how it was “important having that support in real life,” adding, “It’s amazing and I’m honestly truly blessed, for real.”
Rocky recently confirmed their relationship on the June/July cover of GQ, musing over the “love my my life” and calling her “my lady.” “So much better when you got The One. She amounts to probably, like, a million of the other ones,” he said. “I think when you know, you know. She’s The One.”
Prior to being featured in the doc, RiRi also starred in his “Fashion Killa” music video in 2013.
Stockholm Syndrome documents Rocky’s rise to fame and month-long imprisonment in Sweden on an assault charge stemming from a 2019 street altercation that sparked the star-studded #FreeRocky movement in July 2019. Tyler, The Creator, Kim Kardashian and Naomi Campbell also make cameos in Stockholm Syndrome. The 32-year-old rapper was eventually released after being found guilty in a three-day trial and released on a conditional sentence with no further jail time.
“I think making a documentary is all about vulnerability. The documentary is all about showing honesty, authenticity, purity,” he told ET. “I just wanted to tell my story without really complaining or without, you know, seeming like a victim, or like I wanted a pity party or what not.”
