Wear a mask, please! That was the message behind Kerry Washington’s “WAP”-inspired tweet on Thursday (Sept. 3), and Cardi B couldn’t get enough of it.
“WAP until further notice…” the actress tweeted alongside a poster featuring images of the rapper and collaborator Megan Thee Stallion wearing superimposed blue surgical masks with their pink and yellow gowns from the track’s girl power-fueled video.
Cardi clearly loved the latest “WAP” meme, retweeting Washington’s post to her nearly 14 million Twitter followers with a series of cry-laughing emojis.
The rapper’s latest smash hit currently sits at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, after spending two consecutive weeks at No. 1 thanks to its record-breaking success on streaming. Upon its release Aug. 7, the raunchy duet shattered the previous record held by Ariana Grande’s “7 Rings” with 93 million streams in its first week. (It was unseated from the top spot by BTS’ explosive “Dynamite” on the chart dated Sept. 5.)
Featuring cameos by the likes of Kylie Jenner, Rosalía, Normani, and rising stars Mulatto, Rubi Rose and Sukihana, the Colin Tilley-directed video for “WAP” also earned the distinction for having the biggest 24-hour debut of a female collaboration in YouTube history, with a whopping 26.5 million views in just a day.
