LOS ANGELES, CA – Redman recently stopped by HipHopDX headquarters in Los Angeles where he weighed in on the Eminem versus Machine Gun Kelly battle that kicked off last year.
While the illustrious Hip Hop vet recognized MGK’s “Rap Devil” diss track as solid, he took issue with one particular line. So, the How High legend decided to deliver a message to the Cleveland-bred rapper/actor.
“First of all, Eminem came back and was destroying,” he says in the clip. “I think we can all agree on that. His comeback was amazing. But MGK, that first one? When he released it, I’m not gonna lie … Eminem is my boy. But when I first heard it, I was like, ‘This shit is pretty clever.’ But I’d like to say something to MGK.
“MGK, you did a great job on that fuckin’ battle, but there’s one thing you never fuckin’ do. One thing. And that’s talkin’ about a man’s sweatpants. You can talk about his mama, but you do not talk about a man’s sweatsuit. I was like, ‘Damn, my boy Em is wearing a lot of sweatsuits nowadays.’ Maybe that’s his comfortability. For him to say, you know, ‘them corny sweatsuits,’ I laughed, but I sad you know what, he’s young and maybe one day he’s gonna understand what wearing sweatsuits is about when he gets a certain age.”
Funk Doctor Spock continued by reiterating his message for all of the burgeoning rappers out there.
“You do not — and I repeat — any young artist you do not talk about another man’s sweatpants,” he says. “That’s all I’m gonna say about that. That’s when I said, ‘Alright, enough is enough. My brother will come back and kick ass.’He did just what he was supposed to do — came back and smashed. Kill shot. Mic drop. Boom.”
There you have it.
